About the Farm
Millsap Farm is a family-run, 20-acre farm in Springfield, Missouri, rooted in stewardship, community, and good food. What began in 2007 when Curtis and Sarah Millsap purchased the farm from longtime growers James and Erma Brown has grown into a thriving year-round operation supported by their eight daughters, young son, and an ever-evolving community of apprentices, interns, and neighbors.
Starting with just one acre of vegetables and a 20-member CSA in 2008, the Millsaps have spent nearly two decades learning what it truly means to farm well — for the land, for their family, and for their community. Today, the farm grows roughly two acres of vegetables and flowers and operates more than 25,000 square feet of growing space under high tunnels and solar-heated greenhouses. Using organic practices, they grow nutrient-dense food for their CSA members, local markets, and restaurants year-round.
Millsap Farm is more than a business — it’s a learning community. Interns, WWOOFers, and neighbors share in the daily rhythm of planting, harvesting, and gathering around the table. Every decision reflects a deep commitment to stewardship, from no-till beds and solar heating to water-wise growing systems that protect clean water, healthy soil, and biodiversity.
At the heart of the farm is a simple mission: to grow healthy food in a way that sustains people, the land, and future generations — while cultivating lasting connections between eaters, farmers, and learners across the Ozarks.
“We love being your farmers, and we hope to help you connect with your food, your farmers, and the land.”
What Our CSA Is All About
CSAs are a partnership between farmers and eaters.
CSA members purchase a share of the farm’s produce before the growing season begins and then receive a share of the harvest each week during the season. Within this partnership is the idea that all people are responsible for the care of the earth. Members of a CSA support the farmers as they tend the earth in a responsible way, while growing the highest quality produce. Farmers reciprocate by providing local, fresh produce for their members, fresh from the fields, at the peak of their freshness, flavor, and nutrition.
The Challenge: Growing More than Vegetables
It’s August. You’re nearly four months into your first year as a CSA member. The first month you were excited; ready to turn over a new leaf in your eating habits, have local produce, and even take your kids to the farm once or twice. In June you were making gazpacho with roma tomatoes and omelets with local eggs, onions, and peppers. But then school started and your obligations increased. You got tired of kale chips a weekago and now red radishes seem to be piling up in the back of your fridge. Becoming aCSA member seemed like such a good idea, but now you’re not so sure. At some point, most, if not all, of our CSA members have been in this place. CSA’s aren’t just about vegetables, they’re about learning. Most of us can’t purchase land or grow our own food but we can learn to cook with it and to use it in new ways. While we seek to provide members with the foods they crave, we also want to introduce our CSA members to new ways to appreciate food. We encourage members to persevere; and take into account that it can take a couple CSA seasons to fully acclimate to the lifestyle of being a member of a Community Supported Agriculture program. But one thing we stress is that it is worth it!
You will be amazed at how easy and fulfilling it can be to cook with new produce; and just how good carrots and sweet red radishes can taste!4GROWING PRACTICESGood for the Earth, Good for you!
At Millsap Farms, we take very seriously the importance of caring for the Earth, preserving natural resources, and understanding the effects agriculture has on surrounding ecosystems. That is why we engage in many organic practices on our farm. These practices include but are not limited to the use of organic fertilizers and insecticides (insecticidal soaps, neem oil, etc.), no-till planting, cover cropping, composting, utilizing hedgerows and natural borders for pollinators, crop rotation, and more.
Are we certified organic?
Millsap Farms is not a certified organic farm. We feel that the USDA program does not integrate into our unique farm operations, and for that reason we do not have an official certification with the Department of Agriculture.Do we ever sell products for other farms? We do include products from other farms in our CSA boxes. While the majority of the products are grown on our farm, we do supplement specialty crops from other local farms. This includes but is not limited to citrus, grapes, apples, all of our meat products, and winter squash.Note exceptions to organic productsMost of the farms that we purchase supplementary produce from are either certified organic or utilize practices that do not use pesticides or herbicides. If, however, any CS Aproduct is grown using conventional methods, this will be indicated in your weekly CSA box summary.

CSA Community & Volunteer Program
At Millsap Farms, we follow the CSA model to build a deeper connection between farmers and eaters — and between eaters and their food. This partnership makes farming more fulfilling for us, and eating more meaningful and delicious for you. One of the best ways to experience this connection is by spending time on the farm. You’ll see where your food is grown, learn how it’s produced, and become part of the daily rhythm of farm life.
CSA members also help offset one of the greatest costs in farming: labor. Each CSA membership includes 12 hours of required volunteer time during the season.
Volunteer Hours Requirement
Each CSA membership includes 12 volunteer hours for the season.
- Volunteer hours are required per membership, not per person.
- Families and friends are welcome to volunteer together and combine hours.
- Many members complete their hours in one or two mornings.
- All volunteers are invited to stay for our daily family-style lunch with the farm crew.
After purchasing your CSA share, you will receive an email with a link to our volunteer calendar. You may sign up for any available volunteer day, including both weekdays and weekends.
Once you sign up, you’ll receive details about: Start time, What to wear, Where to park, What to expect during your workday.
If you are unable to find a date that works for your schedule, please email us at millsapfarms@gmail.com and we will help arrange an alternate volunteer day.
We understand that life is busy and not everyone is able to volunteer on the farm each season. For this reason, we offer a CSA Work-Share Buyout.
By purchasing a Work-Share Buyout, you cover the cost of the 12 volunteer hours and are exempt from the volunteer requirement for the season. The buyout can be added as a CSA subscription add-on when selecting your Farm Food Share.
Once purchased, your volunteer hours are automatically waived.
Safety on the FarmWe want your visit to be safe and enjoyable. Please be aware that working farms include natural hazards.
Please watch for:
Uneven Ground
Fields and gravel roads may have uneven surfaces and potholes.
Farm Animals
You may encounter chickens, pigs, and horses. Please enjoy observing them, but do not feed or pet them.
Dogs
Several large dogs live on the farm. They are friendly with visitors and children, but please be aware if you are uncomfortable around dogs.
Farm Machinery
Heavy machinery is used daily. Do not touch or operate any equipment unless given permission by a farmer.
Restricted Areas
The large red tool barn is for farm employees only. Children should not enter this area.
Children Visiting the Farm
We love welcoming families and children to the farm and sharing the experience of growing food together. While we strive to make the farm as family-friendly as possible, please be mindful of farm hazards and supervise children at all times.
FAQ & Policies
We'll text/email you each week with a link to the week's availability. Fill your cart and be sure to meet the weekly order minimum ($25/small, $40/large).
Members that do not customize their boxes or meet the order minimum will be automatically enrolled to receive that week's farmer's choice box.
Yes! If you exceed the weekly order minimum, your balance will be automatically deducted from your account credit. Credit automatically renews once your full balance is depleted.
Our 2026 season begins May 5 and runs through November 24.
Members agree to join us for the full season. We also ask for our CSA members to contribute 12 hours a season, this can be filled by multiple members of a family, and we love having kiddos out learning about where their food comes from.
That said, we run an honor system, you sign up online and you would count the hours of those who can contribute meaningful work. If you can’t work, you can buy out at any time for $100/season.
While we'd never advise skipping your veggies, we understand that life gets busy! Our flexible program means you'll have the option to “skip” any time (full season members will receive a full week's credit to use on their next order).
Millsap Farms is not a certified organic farm. We feel that the USDA program does not
integrate into our unique farm operations, and for that reason we do not have an official
certification with the Department of Agriculture.
Note: We may include a few items grown by trusted partner farms (like citrus, grapes, apples, winter squash, and meat). If anything is conventionally grown, we’ll flag it in the weekly box summary.
Member Tips & Resources
Produce Storage Tips
We harvest our produce at its prime, ensuring peak freshness and longevity compared to grocery store counterparts. Follow these tried and true tips to make that farm-fresh flavor last:
- Get your farm box to a cool location ASAP. Nothing ruins fresh produce faster than the hot sun! If you’re out running errands, we recommend making the farm your last stop to avoid spoilage. If you get delivery, please be sure you have a shady spot for us to leave your box.
- Take the tops off your carrots and beets right away when you get home to preserve freshness.
- Wash, dry, and store your greens in a bag (our favorites here!) with some wet paper towels and place in the fridge.
Remember to thoroughly wash all produce before consuming!
Kitchen Tools & Gadgets
Level up from CSA Member to CSA Master with tools and gadgets handpicked to help you maximize the enjoyment of your farm box.
- Salad spinner: Quickly clean and dry CSA produce, saving time and ensuring freshness. Efficient, convenient, and enhances longevity.
- Good kitchen knives, along with a knife sharpener (or local business who sharpens knives!).
- Reusable glass containers and mason jars to keep your food as farm-fresh as possible.
- Sheet pans for roasting delicious veggies!
- Food processor: The one “big-ticket” item we recommend. Use it for making salsa, pesto, pizza dough, and pureeing items like soups and sauces.
